There are various investment instruments in Mutual Funds, such as shares, bonds or money markets. One important factor in investment is asset diversification. You can reduce the investment risk by not putting all your investments solely on one type of instrument. Don’t put your egg in one basket.
Mutual Funds investment has some risks that you should know, which are:
Market Risk
Impairment risk of Net Asset Value due to fluctuations in the price of securities that become the underlying Mutual Funds.
Liquidity Risk
Delayed risk and or failure of payment from the resale of Unit as a result of the inability to sell the securities, which become the underlying Mutual Funds, in the market by Investment Manager.
Credit Risk
A default risk due to the failure of issuer to fulfill their obligations.
Operational Risk
The failure risk of transaction implementation both in system and human resources by the stakeholders in the Mutual Funds.
Changing Economic and Political Conditions Risk
The risk of changes in economic and political conditions both locally and overseas, or in regulations especially related to the Money Market and Capital Market, that affect the performance of issuers and the price of securities issued by the issuers.
Other Risks
Other risk factors contained specifically in the Mutual Funds products, are specified in the prospectus of respective Mutual Funds.
Money Market Funds are the type of Mutual Funds that put all investment funds in money market instruments and debt instruments with maturity periods of of less than one year such as time deposits, bonds and Certificates of Bank Indonesia (SBI). Money Market Funds are the type of Mutual Funds with very low risk, making it suitable for conservative investors.
Fixed Income Funds are the type of Mutual Funds that place at least 80% of investment funds into securities, thus providing fixed income, such as government bonds or debt securities with maturity periods of more than one year. Fixed Income Funds have a higher risk than Money Market Funds, therefore Fixed Income Funds can be a choice of Mutual Funds for moderate investors.
Discretionary Funds are Mutual Funds that put their funds to be invested into various types of securities simultaneously. These securities are equity securities (shares), debt instruments or money market instruments. Moderate investors are also advised to choose Discretionary Funds. Similar with Fixed Income Funds, Discretionary Funds also have a medium-risk level.
Equity Funds are the Mutual Funds that put at least 80% of managed funds to be invested into equity securities (shares). Equity Funds have a higher risk than other Mutual Funds, therefore this type of Mutual Funds are the type that suitable for you aggressive investors. With a high enough risk, you also have a chance to get a higher return than other types of Mutual Funds.
Protected Funds are the Mutual Funds with purchase time determined by the Investment Manager issuing it, while the time of sale can be made after a certain period of time. The characteristic of Protected Funds are similar to a deposit. Mutual Funds have a period of maturity, periodic dividend sharing of profit and usually the principal value of investors investment remain intact at maturity. Disbursements prior to maturity, potentially reduce the value of initial investment (following market values). The Investment Manager will invest most of the funds under its management in Debt Securities, to provide protection on the principal of the customer's investment upon maturity.
