Building Resilient Community (BRC) Program for Victims of Mount Sinabung Eruption

Maybank Indonesia, together with Maybank Foundation in collaboration with MERCY Malaysia, implemented the Building Resilient Communities (BRC) program as part of the community empowerment program after the disaster of Mount Sinabung eruption. The program which began in 2016 at Pebaji Karo North Sumatra aimed to build the spirit of the eruption victims, reduce the burden and help restore the socio-economic conditions of the affected communities. The BRC program used four modules in its implementation to be more measurable and planned, including Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM), School Preparedness Programs (SPP), Resilient Hospital (RH) and Local Government Units. These programs were implemented through training, workshops, seminars, training classes and simulations.

Maybank Indonesia also supported Indonesian education in the Karo region of North Sumatra by building an emergency school for 81 Gungpinto elementary school students who collapsed due to the 5.6 Richter scale earthquake on January 16, 2017. The program had full support from Maybank Foundation and Maybank Islamic in collaboration with Mercy.
