Jakarta, 15 August 2021 – PT Bank Maybank Indonesia, Tbk. (“Maybank Indonesia” or “Bank”) through Maybank Berbagi program once again distributed assistance to support the efforts to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The aid action is Maybank Indonesia’s act of concern regarding the surge of Covid-19 number of cases in several regions in the country in the last few months.

The Ministry of Health’s report on 13 July 2021 recorded the highest spike in Covid-19 positive cases, which touched 47,899 cases. In a relatively short period, this spike impacts the capacity of health services in several hospitals and public health facilities and the availability of medical equipment supplies to support the handling of Covid-19 patients.

In regards to its 62nd anniversary, Maybank Indonesia, through its Maybank Berbagi CSR initiative, distributes medical devices that are useful for the recovery of Covid-19 patients and as a means of self-protection for health workers amid their struggle as the front line in handling and suppressing the impact Covid-19 spread in Indonesia.

Twenty-five government and private hospitals across 11 provinces in Indonesia will receive medical supplies assistance in which Maybank Indonesia is partnering with Benih Baik for the procurement and distribution process. The medical equipment includes oxygen saturation meter, sphygmomanometer, multivitamins, micro porous hazmat, N95 masks, protective gowns, face shields and safety goggles.

In addition, Maybank Indonesia, through Dana Kebajikan managed by its Sharia Business Unit, collaborates with Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) through ACT Care for Humanity program in distributing medical equipment assistance such as 190 oxygen cylinders and refills. The total aid distributed by Maybank Indonesia through ACT and Benih Baik reached Rp1.7 billion (list of hospitals attached).

Maybank Indonesia, President Director, Taswin Zakaria, said, “As part of a business community operating within the community, we are deeply concerned about the current condition of Covid-19 spread in Indonesia, marked by the high number of positive cases of Covid-19 and increasing mortality rate, due to various new variants of the coronavirus which is much more dangerous, and requires us to remain vigilant.”

Taswin added, “To overcome the pandemic and return to being a healthy and Covid-19-free nation, it requires an active role and concern from various parties to take part in tackling the pandemic. This is to maintain the survival of a healthy community, both economically and socially. In the spirit of the 62nd anniversary of Maybank Indonesia, we are making contributions through social actions to help the community and government overcome the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This action is also a reflection of Maybank Indonesia’s mission, Humanising Financial Services, to provide more impact and benefits for the community.”

Founder of BenihBaik.com, Andy F. Noya, said, “We appreciate Maybank Indonesia’s effort and willingness to assist health facilities in supporting the Covid-19 dealing task which we are currently doing together. Provision of medical devices, including multivitamins, will be very beneficial for the health of health workers which will be distributed to various hospitals in Indonesia according to priority needs based on field reports that we receive and acknowledge.”

Meanwhile, President of Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), Ibnu Khajar said, “We welcome the initiative of Maybank Indonesia with Aksi Cepat Tanggap to collaborate in overcoming the impact of this prolonged pandemic and provide oxygen cylinders, and their refills are expected to ease the burden on Covid-19 patients who are still being treated. We will distribute these oxygen cylinders to several referred hospitals, as well as supporting the Humanity Medical Service program, where anyone who may have difficulty in accessing hospital services can contact us for assistance ranging from doctor consultation services, provision of medicines, home care services, and including a free oxygen cylinder loan service.”

Previously, in early 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic began to spread in several countries, including Indonesia, Maybank Indonesia and UUS Maybank through the My Care for You and Me Bank initiative had distributed medical equipment assistance consisted of 1,100 PPE to 38 hospitals spread across Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua. In addition, the Bank also distributed 2,000 food packages to communities affected by the pandemic within the greater Jakarta area.

The My Care for You and Me Bank initiative launched a website to raise donations from the general public, customers and employees of Maybank Indonesia. The collected fund is combined with donations that have been prepared by Maybank Indonesia, including the distribution of medical equipment assistance carried out by Maybank Indonesia currently.

In addition, since April 2020, UUS Maybank Indonesia has also launched the “Save & Transact for Charity” program, an initiative to invite Maybank Indonesia customers and the broader community to donate by opening iB savings and deposits and carrying out various financial activities such as paying monthly bills, top-up up money and payment of zakat, infaq, and alms through the M2U ID App. In the holy month of Ramadan in April 2021, this donation program was reactivated to help overcome the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.
